UPDATE MONDAY, AUG. 29: Production on History‘s upcoming drama series Knightfall resumed Monday at the Prague Barrandov Studios after the massive fire on Friday, which virtually destroyed the show’s exterior sets. Filming has moved indoors for interior scenes. It hasn’t been decided yet whether the external sets will be rebuild. The damage from the fire is estimated to be more than $4 million according to Czech reports.
FRIDAY AUG. 26: Fire has broken out on the Prague set of History’s upcoming drama series Knightfall, from A+E Studios. The blaze damaged only the show’s exterior sets at Barrandov Studios and there were no reported injuries, sources said. The extent of the damage is not known yet, but it is believed to be significant. The cause of the fire is under investigation. For now, the plan is for production to resume on Monday.
Created/executive produced by Don Handfield and Richard Rayner and executive produced by Jeremy Renner, who is set to guest star, Knightfall chronicles the mysterious but true accounts of the Knights Templar, the elite warriors of the Crusades. Dominic Minghella, Jeff Pinkner, Andre Nemec, Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg also executive produce.
Founded by brothers Milos and Vaclav Havel, Barrandov is the largest film studio in the Czech Republic and one of the largest in Europe. The scores of films shot there include Yentl (1983), Amadeus (1984), Boris Gudunov (1986), The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles (1992), The Shooter (1995), Mission Impossible (1996), Les Miserables (1998), The Bourne Identity (2002), The League Of Extraordinary Gentleman (2002), Mission: Impossible IV Ghost Protocol (2011) and Snowpiercer (2013) among many others. Production for TV series Borgia also was based at Barrandov. The studio employs about 150 people.
