Arclight Films and Killer Films confirmed writer-director Paul Schrader will direct Ethan Hawke and Amanda Seyfried in the upcoming First Reformed. The announcement was made while Schrader is at the Toronto film fest with his pic Dog Eat Dog, an official 2016 Cannes Directors’ Fortnight and TIFF selection.
First Reformed, currently in preproduction, is about an ex-military chaplain (Hawke) who befriends a grieving widow (Seyfried), leading to an investigation of his church’s complicity with unscrupulous corporations. Christine Vachon and David Hinojosa of Killer Films are producing. Additional producers include Gary Hamilton and executive producer Brian Beckmann.
Financing was arranged by David Gonzales of Northside, which represents Schrader with Johnnie Planco of Parseghian Planco.
Hawke is repped by CAA, MBMT Entertainment and attorney George Sheanshang. Seyfried is represented by Innovative and attorney Mike Williams.
