Samuel Goldwyn Films has secured North American rights to It Had To Be You, starring Cristin Milioti (How I Met Your Mother) and Dan Soder (Inside Amy Schumer). The romantic comedy, which world premiered at the Austin Film Festival, is slated for an October 21 release.
Helmed and written by Sasha Gordon, the film follows Sonia (Milioti) a quirky, neurotic jingle writer who has always dreamt of a big and exciting life. Surprised by a sudden proposal and subsequent ultimatum from her easy-going boyfriend, Chris, Sonia has three days to decide whether she’ll join the ranks of her married friends or take a leap and pursue her fantasies.
Chris Columbus, who directed the first two installments in the Harry Potter franchise, exec produced the pic while Rachel Brenna, Richard Arlook , Benjamin Kruger and Levi Abrino served as producers.
The deal was negotiated by Melanie Miller and Jill Karole of Samuel Goldwyn Films and William Lowery of APA and Michelle Welch and Sam Eigen of Shoreline.
