Idris Elba’s Green Door Pictures is set to collaborate with Studiocanal-owned Tandem Productions and Havas Media’s Save Ferris Entertainment for new drama series Brazza.
Set in the capital city of the Congo, where one family’s bloody feud threatens the country’s uneasy truce, Brazza is a gritty drama that explores the culture and dark underworld of Brazzaville, a place where not everyone makes the right choice between good and evil.
Paul Viragh, who wrote Andy Serkis starrer Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll as well as Michael Winterbottom’s The Face of an Angel and crime thriller Ashes, is attached to write the project. The one-hour drama series will be sold internationally by Studiocanal.
Studiocanal’s Rola Bauer sealed the co-production deal, which will be produced by Tandem, Save Ferris and Green Door. Bauer exec produces with Tim Halkin, Jean-Charles Felli, Christophe Tomas and Elba and his development team.
“I am so proud to be working on this African-set drama and to introduce a global audience to a world and culture that resonates so vibrantly with me,” said Elba in a statement.
Bauer added: “’Brazza will be a visceral series exploring one family’s feud across Africa and Europe. Idris’ lens into this narrative is quite inspirational as Africa awakens, marching boldly into the first world.”
