Fox has given a script commitment plus penalty to B Team, a single-camera comedy starring top Vine personality Andrew Bachelor aka King Bach. It hails from writer Danny Mackey, McG, Workaholics‘ Adam Devine and 20th Century Fox TV where McG is under an overall deal.
Written by Mackey, B Team is about a former Navy SEAL (Bachelor) struggling to adjust back to civilian life, who forms a team of mercenaries with questionable skills (called the “Badass Taskforce of Elite Assault Mercenaries”). Unfortunately, they’re not all elite and they’re only medium badass, but they’re going to fight for the little guy and protect the law – even if that means breaking it most of the time.
Mackey, Devine and Bachelor executive produce alongside Wonderland Sound and Vision’s McG and Mary Viola. Chris Case will serve as executive producer/showrunner.
This is the second consecutive year that Fox is developing a comedy starring Bachelor. Last year, it bought a single-camera undercover cop comedy, headlined by the Vine star and executive produced by Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele.
McG’s Wonderland most recently produced the breakout hit The Duff for CBS Films. Wonderland is currently in post-production on The Babysitter for New Line, which McG also directed. McG is currently writing and is attached to direct Sony’s Masters of the Universe. He’s repped by WME, Management 360 and attorney David Weber.
Bachelor performs, writes, directs, and produces all of his material. He is the most followed person on Vine, with over 16 million followers to date. Bachelor can be seen in Joe Swanberg’s Netflix series Easy, opposite Dave Franco and Gugu Mbatha Raw, and he recently wrapped Ari Sandel’s Netflix feature When We First Met opposite Devine, Alexandra Daddario and Robbie Amell. He’s repped by UTA, Christina Bachelor, Adam Kaller and Duncan Hedges.
Devine, who has recurred on ABC’s Modern Family, will return for Season 7 of Workaholics in 2017. He’s set for a national comedy tour in January and then will begin production on Netflix’s Game Over, Man! He’s repped by WME, Avalon and Morris Yorn.
Mackey is currently developing Blackbird, an action-thriller based on the novel of the same at Lionsgate, with Alloy producing. He also wrote School of Fear for Red Crown with Eric Brevig attached to direct. He additionally wrote the second season of Warner Bros’ digital series, Aim High. He’s repped by Paradigm, Circle of Confusion and attorney Derek Kroeger.
Case is repped by CAA, Management 360 and Jared Levine.
