The Daily Show contributed mightily to the nation’s Megyn Kelly vs. Newt Gingrich debate last night.
Host Trevor Noah set up a clip of the on-air brawl, in which the former politician claimed the Fox News Channel host is “fascinated with sex” and does not care about policy. That’s because she had brought up Donald Trump’s Access Hollywood sexual-assault boasts, the women who have come forward since with claims against the candidate and his low polling with women, when Gingrich wanted to talk about the DNC email leaks.
Gingrich is uniquely unqualified to talk about fascination with sex, Noah suggested, telling his audience the former House Speaker cheated on two ex-wives. In fairness, he did give Gingrich points for giving “the best answer I have ever heard in my life” when asked about that period of his life.
Roll video of Gingrich explaining, in a 2011 interview, there “is no question” there have been times in his life, “partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, when I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate.”
Noah interprets: “Why did you cheat on your wife? ‘For America, that’s why I did it!”
