IM Global Television has signed an exclusive two-year first-look TV deal with writer/producer David Goyer. Under the pact, Goyer already has boarded two projects for the TV studio — a joint venture between IM Global, Tang Media Partners and Tencent Holdings — through his Phantom Four banner. They include the previously announced sci-fi drama I, Rebel and seasonal anthology series Golden State (working title). Goyer will executive produce, with Phantom Four president Kevin Turen producing.
Created by Dana and Siavash Farahani, I, Rebel centers on an astronaut — lost in space for eight years — who crash lands on Earth to find the world colonized and enslaved by a humanoid alien race. His rise from slave to rebel leader will spark a revolution. Jane Fleming and Mark Ordesky also executive produce.
Golden State tells the story of the LAPD over 150 years. Beginning with the department’s forerunners in the 1850s, each season jumps forward a generation, charting the evolving and tumultuous relationship between law enforcement and criminals culminating with the devastating L.A. riots of the 1990s. Jake Lee Hanne is set to write, Linne Radmin of the Radmin Company attached to produce.
“David and Kevin are the top creative and producing talents in our field,” said IM Global Television President Mark Stern. Added IM Global founder and CEO Stuart Ford, “It’s a tribute to the scripted division that Mark has built that we can now consider David and Kevin our collaborators in television and I’m delighted too at what this says about IM Global’s broader standing in the creative community.”
On the film side, Goyer most recently executive produced and Turen produced Fox Searchlight’s Birth of a Nation. In addition, Goyer was the screenwriter on all three of Christopher Nolan’s Batman films, as well as Batman V Superman, Man of Steel, Blade and Blade: Trinity, which he also directed and produced. In TV, Goyer has the Superman Prequel Krypton, which is currently filming a pilot for Syfy. Goyer was the creator and executive producer of Da Vinci’s Demons, which ran for 3 seasons on Starz. He was also executive producer and director on ABC’s Flash Forward and co-created Constantine for NBC.
“Kevin and I were looking to do something outside the box,” Goyer said. “Because the television landscape is changing so quickly and dramatically, we wanted to find partners who were nimble, who could partner with any buyer, and who had a uniquely global outlook. Stuart and Mark fit that criteria perfectly.”
IM Global Television’s current slate includes an adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut’s Cat’s Cradle with Noah Hawley at FX; TNT pilot Time of Death with M. Night Shyamalan; music series Muscle Shoals executive produced by Johnny Depp and Christi Dembrowski’s Infinitum Nihil, Richard Branson’s Virgin Produced and Joshua D. Maurer and Alixandre Witlin’s City Entertainment; true-life crime drama Patrolman P with director/executive producer Antoine Fuqua; and an adaptation of Marion Zimmer Bradley’s Darkover books at Amazon. A dozen other projects are in active development, including an adaptation of Ken Garing’s graphic novel Planetoid by Michael Sherman and Steve Desmond; the post-apocalyptic piece LD50 with Scott Dacko; the modern-noir crime drama Den of Thieves by Sebastian Gutierrez with Trigger Street’s Kevin Spacey & Dana Brunetti executive producing; and the international co-production Glint with Muse Productions and ProSieben Sat 1.
Goyer is repped by WME.
