Kino Lorber has acquired U.S. rights to Vanessa Gould’s documentary Obit., which offers a rare inside look that the New York Times‘ obituaries desk. The pic, which had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, now has an April 26, 2017 release date at New York’s Film Forum and Lincoln Plaza Cinema before expanding wider. Longtime NYT obituary editor William McDonald and past and present staff are featured as the discuss the art of crafting stories of unusual and notable lives under constant deadlines. The deal was negotiated between Kino Lorber’s Richard Lorber and Wendy Lidell and Linzee Troubh of Cinetic.
Bond/360 has acquired North American rights to Ester Gould and Reijer Zwann’s Strike A Pose, the candid and at times somber documentary that reunites the dancers from Madonna’s iconic Truth Or Dare movie and Blonde Ambition tour 25 years later. The docu explores life for the dancers after the tour and subsequent legal battles with Madonna. A winter theatrical release is in the works; the movie had its world premiere this year at the Berlin Film Festival. The acquisition was negotiated by Bond/360’s Elizabeth Sheldon and Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films.
