ABC has given a script plus penalty commitment to Family Style, a single-camera half-hour comedy from Amy Poehler and her Paper Kite production company, How to Live With Your Parents creator Claudia Lonow, Difficult People showrunner Scott King and Universal TV where Paper Kite and Lonow are based.
Co-written by Lonow and King based on an idea by King, Family Style is a multi-generational comedy about two mismatched men from different cultures who find love in a family-run restaurant in Miami. Lonow and King, who will co-showrun, executive produce with Paper Kite’s Poehler and Brooke Posch, and 3 Arts’ Dave Becky (Louie).
Family Style caps a strong selling season for Paper Kite under the new Universal TV deal in inked a couple of months ago. The company also has a pilot production commitment at NBC for comedy The Baby starring Seann William Scott. It is being written by Craig DiGregorio based an an idea by Scott and Poehler. And at ABC, Paper Kite has a put pilot commitment for a comedy starring comedy legend Carol Burnett. It is written by Michael Saltzman. Paper Kite also produces Broad City for Comedy Central and Difficult People for Hulu, so Family Style is expanding the company’s business with Difficult People‘s EP/showrunner King. Paper Kite is repped by WME and 3 Arts.
This marks Lonow’s return to ABC, where she created and executive produced another multi-generational comedy series, How to Live with Your Parents. She is repped by WME. King is with UTA.
