Norman Lear, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and director Catherine Hardwicke will be among those honored at the SoCal ACLU’s annual Bill of Rights Dinner. Others being feted at the event November 13 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel include Buzzfeed COO Frank Cooper III and Khizr Khan, the Gold Star father of U.S. Army Captain Humayun Khan.
Lear, the legendary producer of such shows as All In The Family and Archie Bunker’s Place, is the founder of People for the American Way, which promotes progressive policies and supports liberal political candidates. He’s also the chair of the ACLU Foundation of Southern California board of trustees.
Gordon-Levitt, star of Snowden and Inception, is an outspoken feminist and equal rights activist. Twilight director Hardwicke has been a leading voice for gender equality in Hollywood. Cooper is a prominent supporter of diversity in the workplace, and Khan famously spoke out against Donald Trump at the Democratic National Convention.
Presenters at the awards dinner, which is celebrating the local ACLU chapter’s 93rd anniversary, include Jane Fonda, Russell Simmons and actress Nikki Reed. Common and Danielle Truitt will provide musical performances.
