NBC has put in development an hourlong procedural drama from Mike Daniels (Sons of Anarchy). The project, produced by Universal TV, stems from the writer-producer’s overall deal with the studio.
Described as a character-driven police procedural with an emotional spin, the untitled drama explores the complex personal life of a former cop and mother who returns to the force, in part, to solve the murder of her detective husband. In the vein of NBC’s breakout This Is Us, the show will use its procedural storylines to examine the humanity of the victims, perpetrators and innocent people affected by crime.
Under his overall deal with Uni TV, Daniels served as co-executive producer on the first season of the studio’s NBC cop drama Shades of Blue starring Jennifer Lopez. He is currently one of the writers for NBC’s upcoming series Taken, co-produced by Uni TV and EuropaCorp TV USA, which set to premiere in February.
Daniels, who started his career as an assistant in Sony marketing, landed his first writing job in 2007 on the CW’s One Tree Hill. Stints on The Vampire Diaries and Pan Am followed, and in 2012, Daniels boarded FX’s Sons of Anarchy, quickly rising from producer to co-executive producer and one of creator/showrunner Kurt Sutter’s top lieutenants. Daniels is repped by WME and Hansen Jacobson.
