EXCLUSIVE: Based on the success of the global trailer launch yesterday for Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, the Culver City studio has announced that its sequel Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 will open on Friday, July 5, 2019. Spidey essentially pushes Sony’s Bad Boys 4 off that Independence Day stretch. The Will Smith-Martin Lawrence fourquel, which was scheduled to open on July 3 of that year, isn’t falling back, rather zooming forward to Memorial Day weekend on May 24, 2019.
On that four-day holiday weekend, Bad Boys 4 will grab the older guys, while Warner Bros vies for the kids with Minecraft (that is if the game is still popular then). Meanwhile, on July 3, Wednesday, Spidey’s only entanglement is with an untitled Universal Illumination movie.
These pics’ previous installments — haven’t even come out yet. Spider-Man: Homecoming opens on July 7 next year. It reps the first time that Sony has been able to include the superhero with the extended Marvel universe that Disney owns. As you saw in last night’s trailer, there’s even more of Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man.
Bad Boys For Life aka Bad Boys 3 opens on January 12, 2018. It’s directed by Joe Carnahan.
