There were no holiday specials on primetime last night but penultimate episodes and winter finales populated the schedule as the return of Blue Bloods (1.2/5) put the CBS NYPD family drama back on top.
Matching lead-in Hawaii Five-O (1.2/5) for the highest rated show of Friday night among adults 18-49, the Tom Selleck led series was even with its last original of November 18. The 50th state set series was down a tenth from its last original as was 8 PM’s MacGyver (1.0/4). Still, with Blue Bloods topping the night’s viewership with an audience of 10.08 million viewers, the House of Moonves easily won Friday with a 1.1/4 rating and 8.96 million watching.
Over on second place ABC, Last Man Standing (1.1/4) and Dr. Ken (0.8/3) were even with last week. At 9 PM, Shark Tank (1.0/4) tanked a bit with a 17% drop from its December 2 show while 20/20 was down a harder 27% from the matching season high of last week’s fast affiliate, that was later adjusted up a tenth in the final numbers.
Caught On Camera With Nick Cannon (0.6/3) dropped a tenth from last week as was Dateline NBC (1.1/4). Over on Fox, Hell’s Kitchen (1.0/4) was the same as its last original and so was the penultimate episode of The Exorcist (0.6/3) with its November 18 show. No word yet if Fox intends to bring the demonic possession show back for a second season though a #RenewTheExorcist campaign has been going strong online for a few weeks.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (0.2/1) said goodbye to 2016 with its first Friday winter finale. Even with last week’s final numbers, the often magical Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna created series was down just a tenth from its Season 1 winter finale of November 30 last year, a Monday. The CW’s other offering of the night The Vampire Diaries (0.4/1) was also even with its December 2 show.
