AT&T’s new Audience Network is trying to make its mark on the Emmy race this season with a couple of new series including the provocative comedy, You Me Her which was part of their showcase at Deadline’s first-ever Contenders Emmys all day event at the DGA theatre last month where awards hopefuls got to strut their stuff in front of a packed audience of TV Academy and key guild members. Joining me for a conversation about You Me Her was its creator/writer John Scott Shepherd and its two female stars Rachel Blanchard and Priscilla Faia who play two thirds of a complicated love triangle that essentially sees a married couple taking on another woman in a relationship that certainly kicks the tires of tradition. Although initially inspired by a Playboy article exploring alternative relationships , this show became its own entity in the hands of Shepherd who said it is taking a progressive idea and setting it essentially on Main Street Portland. It is a hot button topic at first glance, but he says it evolves into genuine emotion with these three people beginning to fall in love in a very unorthodox way. Faia , who plays the call girl who gets involved with both sides of this couple says it is not gratuitous at all and emphasizes that what you see on screen are real, complex people.
